Description
Lacosamide (brand names include Clipsel®) is a prescription anticonvulsant medication primarily used to control and prevent certain types of seizures in patients with epilepsy. It is a DEA Schedule V controlled substance, meaning it has a low potential for abuse relative to other controlled substances.
Lacosamide is approved for:
Focal-onset seizures (seizures that start in one part of the brain) as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy in adults and children as young as one month of age.
Primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures (seizures that affect the entire body, formerly known as grand mal seizures) as adjunctive therapy in adults and children 4 years of age and older.
